# History of MultiVAC MultiVAC was born in 2018. Geniuses from Google, Facebook, Harvard, and Stanford proposed a brand new blockchain technology based on their deep academic and engineering experience of multiple distributed systems. A flexible blockchain protocol based on trusted sharding becomes popular in media and attracts capital as people begin to realize that flexibility is the new scalability. For the vision of this innovative system, and to update the blockchain system from single-core to multiple-core, MultiVAC published three papers about their design and subsequently released three versions of their Testnet in order to test various capabilities and performance metrics.
